Also featured in Knitters Magazine #5

Materials you will need:

Your pattern

Approx. 12 oz. Heavier worsted weight yarn or more depending upon your size ( I will use 12 oz for a size 38 bust or 770 yards)

A 24 or 29 circular needle in what ever size you need to get gauge

Stitch holder

Gauge: 4 sts or 4 Rs to 1

R= 1 ridge (2 knit rows of garter stitch)

Cast on 10 sts. Using the Invisible Cast on or whatever you prefer for the neck band

Rows 1-20: Knit back and forth for 10 ridges (20 rows)

Row 21: knit across and cast on an additional 20

Row 22: Knit

Rows 23-100: knit even or if you need a larger size , referring to the ARW chart in our files add an additional stitch at the armhole or neck edge (neck edge will give you a v-neck look) every other or every 4th row until you reach your desire amount of stitches (for your bust size). If you are increasing a large # of stitches you may want to increase at the neck and armhole edges both.

You can stop knitting even after row 100 if you have reached your desired armhole length, if not continue knitting even until you reach the length of armhole you like.

Turn 1st Corner: work you first corner, beginning at the front (long edge) leaving one unworked stitch more each row as we did on the Baby Bear Rib Warmer until 5 sts. Are left. You can go down to less stitches for a less rounded curve it you prefer. My Rib Warmer in the pictures here went down to 3 sts. After 5 sts (or less ) remain, beginning picking the unworked stitches back up, the same as we did on the BBRW until all have been picked back up.

Side section: Knit even on the side section until you reach your desired armhole length. (follow chart you are using, approx. 2 to 3 )

Back: Turn 1st half of back corner as we did on the first corner. This time go down to 3 sts. Build back up by working unworked stitches until you have picked up 5 stitches. STOP ! Break off yarn and place all stitches on a holder.

As I'm sure you've figured out from the Baby Bear Rib Warmer, we will be making a second half to our Rib Warmer exactly like the first.  Pick up the 10 stitches  at the top of your Rib Warmer and beginning knitting just as you did on Week One and Two.  When you complete those rows, STOP!  We'll be completing the back and do our finishing work in Weeks Five and Six.
If you have any problems check back to the Baby Bear Rib Warmer page or read our e-mails about the Baby Bear Rib Warmer in the message Archives at our yahoo groups site.

Join the two pieces, short sides at bottom together (long ends facing out). Knit across the five stitches you have already picked up , Pick up one more stitch (6 stitches,) turn and knit back across those six , and the five you have already picked up from your second piece plus pick up one more stitch.

Repeat going across, picking up one more stitch at the end of each row until all the Orphan stitches have been picked up and you have all the  stitches on the needles. You have built your back up now. Knit on these stitches for 35 Ridges..

Shape shoulders by knitting 4 sts less each row.

Row 1: Knit across row until there are t4 stitches left, wrap and turn next stitch, leaving three stitches not knit (1 wrapped and two not worked)

Row 2: repeat row 1

Row 3: Repeat row 1

Row 4: Repeat row 3

Row 5: Repeat row 1

Row 6: Repeat row 5.

To finish weave stitches to not worked shoulder stitches .

Sew collar to back neck by picking up stitches across neck back and weaving. (you will have removed your yarn holding invisible cast on and placed those stitches on a needle.)

You can also work this by:

Row 1: bind off first three stitches , knit to end.

Repeat Row 1 until 20 stitches remain. Sew up should seams and sew collar on at neck back.

To finish the ARW you can crochet around the neck edge and armholes or work I-cord around. I also attach either and I-cord or crochet chain ties to the front.

Wrap and turn directions can be found at the Tripod website and in the photos at the Yahoo site.

Back to first RW, note the seam. I hadn't seen

The right side of the above picture shows the armhole depth.  Where the needle is on the furthest right side is where I am working on the armhole width.
