Repeat these 10 rounds for 8 inches or desired length
Decreases:
The decreases are more of a recipe than an actual stitch count.  You want to continue the spiral effect around the top of the hat.
Once you get to the length you desire (8 inches for Ship Support) decrease by purling two together in place of the P1 in the body of the hat pattern.  You will be decreasing on the first row then working the stitches as they lie for the second.  On the next decrease row you knit the purl stitch from the previous row then purl 2 the next two stitches together to the end of the round.  Work the next round even.  The idea here is to continue the purl spiral around the top of the hat till there is nothing but purl stitches, at which point you just P2tog to 8 stitches, break yarn leaving a 8 inch or so tail and thread through the remaining stitches and draw them up tight.  Weave in the ends.
