Fan and Feather Faroese Style Shawl

Materials needed:

Oz. Worsted Weight yarn

Size 10 29” circular needle

Stitch markers. Hint: make the markers place in row 1 distinctive. Use beaded markers or red ones and then use plain white ones for the markers placed in rows 19 and 21. You will be increasing at the beginning and end of each row, before the first beaded marker and after the second on all right side rows.

Abbreviations:

PM: Place Marker

IN 1: increase 1 by knitting in front and back of stitch

SM: Slip Marker

Fan and Feather Pattern rows:

Row 1: Knit 18

Row 2: Purl 18

Row 3: (K2 tog) 3 times, (YO , K1) 6 times, (K2 tog) 3 times

Row 4: Knit 18

Cast on 22 stitches and knit 2 rows even

Row 1: K2, YO, Place Marker (from now on -PM) , K18, PM, YO, K2

Row 2: K2, Purl 20, K2 (slipping markers this row and all rows as you work)

Row 3: K2, YO, K1 in front and back of stitch, , (K 2 tog) 3 times, (Y0, K1) 6 times, (K 2 tog) 3 times, K1 in front and back of stitch, YO , K2

Row 4: K 28

Row 25: K2, YO, K to marker, K18, K to 1 stitch before marker, IN1, K 18, IN 1, K to marker, K18, Knit until 2 stitches are left, YO, K2

Row 26: K2, P until 2 to the end, K2

Row: 27. K2, YO, K to marker , *pattern row 3*, K to one stitch before marker, IN1, repeat from * to*, IN 1, Knit to marker, repeat * to *, Knit until 2 stitches remain YO, K2,

Row 28: Knit across (76)

Repeat rows 25 to 28 until Shawl is desired length.

Knit two rows even , removing markers. Bind off as if to Purl. Add fringe if desired
