5HBS Baby Sweater Poncho

DIRECTIONS:

Knit Pattern stitch- K1, insert needle (from front to back) under
next horizontal loop of row below (between sts) and knit this st.

Purl Pattern stitch - P1, insert needle (from back to front) under
next horizontal loop of row below (between sts) and purl this st

PM - place marker, K2Tog - knit 2 together

Materials needed:

Worsted weight yarn approx. 3 oz.

size 10 needles

Gauge: 4.5st/inch. Poncho is worked
flat through row 26 and in the round for the rest of the sweater

Yoke (knit flat)

Starting at the neck edge, cast on 34 stitches, using "crocheted cast-
on"

Rows 1 - 4: Knit.

Row 5: K3, P to last 3 sts, K3

(Until row 25, knit the first 3 and last 3 sts on all rows. Do NOT
include these 6 stitches in the "increase evenly across row")
Suggested increase: Backward loop or lifted bar (M1) increases
Row 6: K3, *K1, Inc 1* across, increasing 14 stitches evenly across row, end with K3.
(48 sts)
Row 7: K3, P to last 3 sts, K3.
Row 8: K3, * K2tog. Repeat from * ending K3.
Row 9: K3, work knit pattern stitch, ending K4.( 48 sts).

Row 10:K3, *K2, Inc 1* repeat from * to * across ending K3 (62 stitches)

Row 11, 12 and 13: repeat rows 7, 8, and 9
Row 14: K3, *K3, Inc* repeat from * to * across ending K3 1(76 stitches)

Rows 15, 16, 17: repeat rows 7, 8, and 9
Row 18: K3, * K4, Inc1* repeat from * to * across ending K3 (90 stitches)

Rows 19, 20, 21: repeat rows 7, 8, 9
Row 22: K3,* K5, Inc 1* repeat from * to* across ending K3 (104 stitches)

Rows 23, 24, 25: repeat rows 7, 8, 9



Row 26: K5, *increase one stitch, K5 repeat from * ending K1 (20
stitches increased) and place last 3 stitches on holder (121 stitches
on needles). Do NOT turn work, poncho will now be done in the round.
Rounds start at the center front.

Round 27: Join by holding stitch holder in front of work (overlapping
the buttonbands) and P2tog using one stitch from the holder and one
stitch from the buttonband on the poncho, repeat 2 more times. (121
stitches) Place a Marker.

Round 28: *Knit 15, Inc1* repeat around, increasing 8 stitches evenly (129 stitches). (You will not end evenly)
Round 29: Knit around.
Round 30: *Knit 16 around, Inc.1* increasing 8 stitches evenly. (137 sts)
Knit 14 more rounds. On the last round, increase one stitch (138 sts)

Round 45: K2tog for entire round (69 sts)
Round 46: Work purl pattern stitch around (138 sts.)
Rounds 47-48 : Knit
Rounds 49-56: Repeat Rounds 45-48 twice
Rounds 57, 59, 61, 63: Knit

Rounds 58, 60, 62: Purl

Round 64: Bind off as if to Purl
