Fan and Feather Triangle Prayer Shawl

Materials:

 Approx. 12 to 24 ozs of any weight of yarn.

Size 6 to 13  circular needle appropriate for yarn weight

Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Stitch Markers


Abbreviations:

Inc.: Knit in front and back of stitch

PM: Place Marker

Gauge: not important  

Cast on 2 sts

Knit one row

Row 1: Inc. in both stitches (4 sts)

Row 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16: Knit

Row 3: Increase in first and last stitch (6 sts)

Row 5: repeat row 3 (8sts)

Row7: “ (10 sts)

Row9: “ (12sts)

Row 11: “ (14 sts.)

Row 13: “ (16 sts.)

Row 15: “ (18 sts.)

Row 17: “ (20sts)

Row 18: Knit 1, PM, Knit 18, PM, K1

Row 19: Inc. in first stitch, SM, *(K2 tog 3 x’s), [YO, K1 6 x’s], (K2 tog 3 x’s)* SM, Inc in last stitch

Row 20: Knit to marker, SM, Knit to next marker, SM, Knit to end of row

Row 21: Inc in first stitch, K until 1 stitch remains, Inc. in last stitch

Row 22: Knit to marker, SM, Purl to next marker, SM, Knit to end

Row 23: repeat row 19 (4 knit stitches on outsides of markers)

Row 24: repeat row 20

Row 25: repeat row 21 (5 sts)

Row 26: repeat row 22

Continue repeating the 4 pattern stitch rows increasing on the right side rows.  Your stitch counts on the outside of the markers will be as follows:

27 and 28: 6 sts

29 and 30: 7 sts  (each 4 rows is one pattern repeat)

33 and 34: 9 sts

35 and 36: 10 sts

37 and 38: 11 sts

39 and 40: 12 sts

41 and 42: 13 sts

43 and 44: 14 sts.

45 and 46: 15 sts

47 and 48: 16 sts.

49 and 50: 17 sts.

 

51 and 52:  18 sts

53 and 54: 19 sts.

Work row 54 the same as row 18, place markers 1 st in from edges.

Continue repeating pattern from Row 19 to 54.  You’ll be increasing two pattern repeats across each time you knit rows 10 to 54. Knit to desired size.
