Week One:
Please read through your pattern and get ready to begin by gathering your yarn, markers, needles, and take time to mark
your pattern in the size you will be knitting to avoid confusion later. Make sure you get comfortable with the Gull
Lace pattern and the Make 1 increase as well as take time to knit a swatch in garter stitch so you know you are getting gauge.
As you choose your pattern size be aware that that the given measurements on the pattern are the finished bust size. If you
want the sweater to fit comfortable do allow extra width.
Week One of our KAL will have us casting on, knitting the collar and then knitting on to complete the yoke. You will
be knitting from 16 to 30 repeats of rows 5 and 6 to get you to the point of the eyelet increases and the base of the yoke.
You will want to knit until yoke is long enough for the sleeves stitches to almost meet under your arms. I don't like the
looks of the eyelet increases personally so I plan to just work a M1.
Week Two and Three: The Sweater Body
During the next two weeks we'll be knitting one repeat (4 rows) of the gull stitch pattern and will then place our stitches
for the sleeves onto stitch holders or waste yarn. I plan to place markers every 7 sts (you could also work every 14
or 21 sts) just to help me make sure I am keeping my gull pattern worked correctly. Make sure you place the stitches
on the holder according to the pattern directions and that you cast on the 7 sts. (1 pattern repeat) after the sleeves.
Keep the garter stitch edgings at the beginning and end of the rows and work on your body stitches to 1 1/2" shorter than
the length you want your sweater to be.
Work 1 1/2" of garter stitch and bind off using a needle two sizes larger than the one used for the body.
Next we'll be starting to work on our sleeves.
